Yuppie (“young urban professional”) refers to an upper middle class or upper class professional in their 20s or 30s.  First popularized in the early 1980s, it faded from American pop culture after the 1987 stock market correction and early 1990s recession.

Newsweek dubbed 1984, the year of “Morning in America” as the “Year of the Yuppie” with a now iconic image by Doonesbury cartoonist Gary Trudeau that has been called the magazine’s “most memorable cover.”  Newsweek ceased print production as of December 31st, 2012.
